The Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales "Nicolás Cabrera" of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, comprises more than 100 professors and postdoctoral researchers at our university interested in different aspects of Materials Science, Nanoscience and Biophysics. Their activity is supported by a high number of graduate students, so that research at the Nicolás Cabrera Institute involves the work of about 150 scientists. Founded in 1989, the Nicolás Cabrera Institute has provided a valuable framework for the development of joint scientific and academic enterprises within the large community of Nanoscience, Materials Science and Biophysics scientists of our university. Our Institute is heir to the tradition of academic and scientific excellence pioneered by Nicolás Cabrera (1913 - 1989), who played a decisive role in the shaping of world-class Physics Departments at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. This Institute may be viewed as a fitting tribute to his memory, for it embraces and coordinates the scientific research of a community of physicists which to a large extent is the legacy of Don Nicolás Cabrera.
Currently, the Instituto Nicolás Cabrera is involved in an expansion period of its activities according to the statutes of the Institute: research, teaching and scientific dissemination.
