Self-organization is a process in which the internal organization of a system increases in complexity without being regulated by an outside influence. The concept of self-organization is central to the description of biological systems, from the subcellular to the ecosystem level. In this summer school, leading research groups in self-organization will discuss self-organization in evolution, development, microorganisms, the brain, animal collectives and ecological systems.
This summer school should interest biologists with an interest in quantitative descriptions of biological phenomena, physicists, engineers and mathematicians.
