The Nicolás Cabrera Institute is named after the founder of the Physics Departments of the UAM. His strive for scientific excellence and open approach to industry and the problems of society shape the activities of the Physics Departments of the UAM active in Materials Science.
The Nicolás Cabrera Institute has the goals of: • Conducting research at the frontier of knowledge in materials science and related areas. Their members deliver publications, technical notes, patents and spin-offs which provide new scientific background knowledge and proprietary technology. • Improving the leadership of Madrid’s Campus in Materials Science by providing well trained young researchers and technical staff. • Supporting and enhancing the technical infrastructures of the UAM. Aid in developing the brand “UAM” as a provider of technical solutions and instruments. • Enhancing society’s awareness about the importance of materials science.
To achieve these goals, the Institute develops a program of activities designed to: • Foster scientific collaboration between its members through specific initiatives such as the construction and set-up of new infrastructures or the organization of meetings and conferences. • Offer advanced master degree, doctorate, and technical training programs, with focus on collaboration among its members and the technical services, and the participation of internationally recognized scientists. • Represent and serve the members of the Institute. • Structure collaborative participation in international calls. • Develop outreach activities.
